I was surprised at the response I got when I asked some students to start their own tea party. Once the ball got rolling, the whole thing took on a life of its own. We started calling more planning meetings and more youth started showing up. Now we are in the “talk it up” phase. Last Wed. evening two of our leaders Zeke Baucum and Olivia Loper were interviewed on “The Right Side Radio Program.” These two young people did an outstanding job and really amazed me as I listened. We would love to see other cities and towns in this nation start their own youth tea parties. We must remember they are the future and without them showing their desire for change in Washington are efforts will be in vain. Imagine thousands of future voters and taxpayers speaking out and protesting for change. Do you think the politicians in D.C. would take notice. I believe they would. What are your thoughts?

When it comes to youth today, most folks believe that young people don’t get what’s going on. As a teacher I can say this is partly true. Many don’t know and worst some just don’t care. So how do we change this? Without our future generation getting involved in the effort to reclaim our republic, all will be in vain. In light of Obama’s charisma and the fact that many young adults help vote him in, how do we start a youth awakening to the truth. It’s very simple, we make it relate directly to them. We make them see how it will effect them in the future, namely their pocketbooks. As a teacher I can attest to the fact that once you show a fifteen or sixteen year old how the current spending policies of the federal government will hit their personal finances, many wake up quickly. The ones who have never been politically aware suddenly want to know more. Simply give the facts and they will ask more questions and I’ve seen some get down right mad. They quickly see the insanity of our government and also see how unfair it is that their future is literally being taken away from them. I’ve often told them, “If you don’t want to see your pay check depleted in the future to repay China the trillions we owe them then you had better do something.” Then the inevitable question comes, “What can we do?” It’s at that point you can give them the hard cold facts about the trillions this country owes to places like China and Hong Kong and the fact that they will be expected to pay it all back in the future. Young people hate injustice and quickly catch on to the insanity of out of control borrowing. Many see the totally disregard for common sense in D.C. Once I explained the facts to my students many wanted to get involved and some had heard about the tea parties. It wasn’t long they proposed to start a youth tea party. I was amazed at their energy and great ideas. Their tea party will be more of a pep rally for freedom and I believe on July 11th it will be the first of its kind. Teens Economically Aware is one sign you will see at their tea party. Encourage the young people where you’re from to start their own tea party. Find a few teens who are politically aware and get them started. They will do the rest. In the days to come I will have blogs suggesting ways to get youth involved in this movement. If you have ideas let me know. Let’s get a youth tea party movement going in this country.

Leaders of “The Mississippi Tea Party” met in Jackson Saturday morning to discuss topics related to the tea party movement. One topic discussed was the “Youth Tea Party Movement” that will kick off in Laurel, MS. on July 11th. Reed Walters, Vice-Chairman of the We Surround Them- Jones County, introduced ideas about how to get youth involved in the effort to reclaim the American republic. “Without the effort of our youth this movement will be in vain. It is there generation that will pay for this mess and we must have them involved.” Walters challenged the leadership to engage teenagers and young people in the planning of future tea parties. “Find some politically active young people, plan a meeting and get them started planning a tea party. We only started with a handful of eager teenagers and it is growing.” More posts on tips for getting youth involved in planning their own tea parties.

On Saturday May 2, twenty young people ranging from elementary to high school students gathered at the Laurel Hotel Conference Lobby to begin planning a youth led tea party scheduled for July 11th at the Laurel Court House Square. These students showed great interest in the cause to take America back to its founding principles. Reed Walters, Vice Chairman of We Surround Them- Jones Co. said, “These young people get it and they are planning one heck of a tea party that everyone will want to come out for.” Updates on this event will be posted soon.
